About the Academy
TC United/Waza FC Academy Training programs are available for those players interested in training with the top coaches in the area. The Winter Academy Training programs are designed to train players and develop teams for the spring Thruway League, BCSA League, and State Cup Tournament. The Academy Training program approach will be to develop player pools for the U13, U14, U15, U16, U17 and U18 Boys and U14 and U16 Girls levels through competitive training, league or friendly games and tournament play, with team selection for the spring to take place late winter. All players that participate in the Winter Academy Training program will be placed on either a Thruway or BCSA team in the Spring as determined by their age group's coaches.
There will be dedicated coaches for each level, with Dwight Hornibrook (Head Coach for Men's Soccer at SUNY Cortland and formerly a Canadian National Team coach) and LaMarr Peters (Head coach for Waza and former professional player) providing technical direction across the program, and taking a leadership role in the State Cup teams. Winter training will be held indoors at The Field in Lansing, NY, with spring training and home games at a variety of sites in the Ithaca/Dryden area.
This program is expected to build from the solid start of the last two years, and we are excited to be growing a really good program for girls. The 2010 U18 boys team finished second overall in the 2010 State Cup tournament. That 2010 team was made up of players from Ithaca, Lansing, Trumansburg, Dryden, Candor, and Cortland and was the first TC United team to qualify for the final 4 since a TC United U18 Boys team did it back in 2005.
To participate in any TC United/Waza FC Academy Programs, youth must first become members of TC United by registering online for a $16 annual membership. This annual membership is a once per year fee and covers training and league play for an entire playing year - Fall 2010, Winter 2010-2011 and Spring 2011. Players will also be responsible for purchasing their uniforms, as needed.

What Age Group Should My Winter Academy Player Register For?
TC United/Waza FC Academy Training programs are available for those players interested in training with the top coaches in the area, and focused on improving their game through fitness, conditioning, skill work, tactical understanding, and application of training in game situations at appropriate levels of competition.
All Academy players will play in their age group based on the NYSW Soccer Age Matrix.
The technical staff will evaluate the ability of each player and the overall level of the team and design training based on the skill set of the players and the team.
Once the initial evaluation process is complete we will consider moving players to a team where there is a better opportunity for the player to be developed through the training and competition process.
Factors such as physical ability, technical and tactical skill and perhaps most importantly attitude and coachability will help determine where players will ultimately settle for the Spring season. We will not put a player at risk physically when considering these decisions. We will not move a player to a higher level unless they are going to have significant playing time at the higher level as players cannot meet their goals when they are not on the field.
The primary objective of the Academy program is to provide an excellent training and competitive enviroment for the players to enjoy the game in.
The culture of the Academy is founded on a player first/winning second philosophy and all decisions will reflect that culture.
To determine what age group your player is in please reference the Soccer Age Matrix.
